Volunteering and Financial Support
Our choir is entirely run by volunteers, and has been successful in past years because of communal efforts. All participants (or parents of participants) are requested to volunteer in some way. There are lots of different ways to help, which are detailed in the sign up link.
In addition, each participant is kindly requested to make a contribution of $50 to cover the costs of snacks, costume supplies, and other performance-related expenses. We do not want this to hinder anyone’s participation, and the fee will be waived if it poses a hardship.
Requirements for Participation
For the Concert Choir, we welcome children 6 years and older, who are willing to learn to sing the Concert Choir repertoire.
For SWEA Swedish Christmas Fair performances, there is an additional requirement that children have (most of) the lyrics memorized and are capable of standing (mostly) still for the duration of the performance. The choir director will determine readiness by the final Sunday practice. If a child is not yet ready for the cathedral performance, they will still be very welcome at the Young Scandinavian’s Club performance!
For the Chamber Choir, we welcome children 12 years and older as well as adults, who are willing to learn the different voice parts of both the Concert Choir and Chamber Choir repertoires. Note: Older children are welcome to remain in the Concert Choir!
All participants must attend a minimum of four (4) Sunday rehearsals as well as the dress rehearsal in order to perform.
